Program Highlight: Yoga for Pelvic Floor Wellness

Our unique Yoga for Pelvic Floor Wellness program focuses on improving the health of the bladder, bowel, and intimate function through mindful movement and breath. Both men and women are welcome, including peripartum participants, as long as they can transition to and from the floor with the support of a chair. Our latest session of Yoga for Pelvic Floor Wellness ran from July 22 to August 26, and the program has been consistently offered since June 2024.

A Holistic Approach to Pelvic Floor Health

Yoga for Pelvic Floor Wellness creates space for participants to breathe into the pelvis, strengthen vital muscles, and foster an overall sense of wellness. The program combines safe, low-impact movement with evidence-based techniques that support everyday function and enhance quality of life.

Instructor Lauren S. shares, “I think one of the unique benefits is that this class provides a safe space for people to connect with a part of their body that could possibly carry a lot of stigma. For most people, pelvic floor dysfunction can come with a lot of heavy emotions—embarrassment, shame, etc. Having a little community of people with shared experiences helps shed some of the emotional heaviness that can come along with a diagnosis. People feel validated and comforted in knowing they are participating in a program that utilizes movements and techniques that have been scientifically proven to improve pelvic floor dysfunction.”

Member Experiences

Participants consistently speak to the program’s impact on their lives, both physically and emotionally. One member shares,

“I have dealt with pelvic floor issues for a few years. After my last pelvic floor physical therapy session, I started enrolling in the Yoga for Pelvic Floor Wellness program. I incorporate what I have learned in my daily life, and this class has really helped my pelvic floor health.”

Another longtime member, Judy P., adds, “As a long-time member of the Orland Park Health and Fitness Center, the Pelvic Floor class taught by Lauren Staley has helped me in many ways. I have taken this class before and after surgery. The organization and structure of the class allow us to move at our own pace, with Lauren’s excellent teaching and knowledge of the body. I have made measurable gains over my difficulties with her infectious enthusiasm and confidence. We are fortunate to have access to this program and instructor.”

Other members echoed similar gratitude, noting how the program improved not just physical function, but also mental health and healing. “I joined the class to help with incontinence, not realizing how it would help with multiple issues,” one shares. “Pelvic floor yoga has helped not only with my incontinence but has released some childhood trauma. I am thankful for our instructor, Lauren Staley, who is very kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Lauren is always aware and supportive.”

For Jackie Z., the benefits have been life-changing. “The Yoga for Pelvic Floor Wellness program has been highly effective in my life, both mentally and physically. My problems began many years ago. Years later, I was directed to this wonderful class with Lauren Staley. Lauren has taught us deep breathing and how amazing this exercise helps us. She explains every aspect of what the function of the pelvic floor is and how important it is in our everyday lives. I have been in all Lauren’s classes since she began teaching us in 2024. I am thankful that the Pelvic Floor program has continued. I wish more people knew how beneficial this program is.”
